How much does media training cost?

Published by Colin Kelly on May 22, 2026 May 22, 2026

A media training session with us here at Comsteria costs around £1400+VAT for a full day session with between 3 and 6 participants. All our training is bespoke and the fees we quote include preparation, pre training discussion/planning to get a brief from you and all materials including video camera for interview practice.

If your session involves only 1 or 2 participants, you prefer online delivery or don’t need a full day, then that price would come down and we might be able to deliver the session for somewhere between £750+VAT and £950+VAT. We also reduce our fee for charitable organisations. The important thing to note is we’ll always be upfront and provide a full quote before undertaking any work so there won’t be any surprises or unexpected costs.

Where we have to travel outwith Central Scotland, if you have larger groups or require a particular level of in-depth specialist research and preparation then our fees would increase. And if you’re another agency hiring us to deliver media training for your client then we’d reduce our costs. If you’re handling the client relations, we’re invoicing you, not them and you’re handling the admin burden then we’d expect to reduce our rate and enable you to add your own cut on top to make it worthwhile for you. We’re always happy to work this way and much of our specialist media training work comes via other agencies who already have a relationship with the client but lack our background in journalism and media training experience. Get in touch if you’ve a client you’d like us to get media ready.

In some recent cases we’ve doubled up and provided 2 trainers for a course. Or had a large group together for part of the day learning theory then split into 2 for practical on camera elements. Some participants go with me for more of a journalistic interview experience while the others will work with our co-founder Emma Baker and focus on in-house social media clips. We don’t just double our fee when we provide a 2nd trainer – there are economies of scale you can benefit from. Similarly, booking 2 courses doesn’t mean you’ll pay twice the fee for a single course. As we get to know you, the work becomes easier for us and we’ll always deliver the best value to our loyal clients.

There are lots of different ways to structure the session and the advantage of choosing Comsteria for your media training course is we can shape it to suit your precise needs. We’ve worked with many organisations within Scotland’s public sector, charities, small business, large businesses, university principals, politicians, athletes, musicians and many more. Some want to practice for hard news situations and crisis comms. Others expect a much more sympathetic media and it’s about us helping them get their story across in an interesting way.

Our promise is simple: Outstanding value for money and media training designed to build you up, not trip you up.
