Clients often highlight outstanding value for money as one reason they choose Comsteria for their media training courses. But we also enjoy lots of praise and recommendation for our commitment to respecting our clients’ time.
A senior manager doesn’t necessarily need to be present for an entire full day’s course, particularly if they’ve had media training in the past. In addition, some members of your senior team might feel reluctant to go on camera and take part in interview exercises in front of colleagues from other areas of the business.
We often advocate for mixed ability sessions and there’s lots to be gained by having everyone present for a full day and seeing each other. In our experience staff from different levels and departments enjoy learning more about each other and a collaborative, supportive environment often emerges where everyone helps each other out and provides encouragement and constructive feedback.
But it’s not essential. Recently, we’ve delivered media training sessions for clients where the theory element of the media training is delivered in advance via Teams or Zoom. Or in some cases via pre recorded ‘video on demand’ modules which sit on their Sharepoint. The client then books us for a day either in person or remote and senior managers are booked into 1 hour private sessions with us (myself as the journalist and, if it’s an in person session, also Emma as camera operator).
An hour each is enough time for us to provide a refresher on the key points of theory and to run 3 or 4 practice television and radio interviews with feedback and coaching between each of them. We’ll also answer any questions the participant might have. Where Emma is involved as camera operator, she’ll also be part of the feedback and coaching, providing a valuable additional perspective.
Since COVID and the rise of ‘work from home’, we know it’s becoming challenging to bring everyone together to run full day training sessions. They are enjoyable and useful but if it’s not practical, then Comsteria will always provide flexible media training solutions.
Another option is to have the full team together for a theory session in the morning and then to run 1-1 ‘clinics’ in the afternoon where the interview practice can take place.
It’s worth remembering too that media training isn’t just for people you expect to give interviews to television, radio and newspapers. You’ll be learning transferrable skills that will prove useful when you’re creating content for your own social media channels or any number of situations where you have to speak about your work.
Don’t let logistics hold you back! Have a read at our Trustpilot reviews. Contact Comsteria today and we’ll build a media training course for your senior managers, that works for you.
