Last week a client sent us a clip of one of their team appearing on a major TV news programme. Another participant on a recent course was back for a refresher. It had been about a year since the last time we’d seen him and he spoke enthusiastically about some opportunities he’d had to give interviews and put into practice what he’d learned.
It always makes us happy to see our media training put to good use. But sometimes, it can be several months, or even longer before you get the chance to use what you learn in training in a real, live interview situation.
And some clients take a more ‘under the radar’ approach to media engagement and actively hope never to give interviews!
We would argue that even though you’re not in front of the cameras, there are still many situations where media training can help you in your line of work. It could be speaking via your own social media channels. A departmental briefing. Any sort of stakeholder engagement. Answering the dreaded ‘what is it you do?’ when you meet someone new. Media training helps you talk about your work with clarity and confidence in a whole range of situations.
But after our training, we would always encourage you to come back for some further practice. It doesn’t have to be a full day course again. 20 minutes via Zoom or Teams might be all you need, to run through those questions and key messages, see how you perform and get some feedback and advice.
Some of our clients are actually doing this now and reaping the benefits of increased sharpness and growing confidence. Get in touch and we can line something up for you.
